Situated on over 46 000 acres of private property and bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, Kulala Desert Lodge lies in the heart of the Namib and offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei, as well as magnificent mountainous scenery and vast open plains. Twelve thatched and canvas chalets or "Kulalas" (Kulala in the Namibian language "Oshiwambo" means "to sleep") with en-suite bathrooms and showers are set on wooden platforms to provide maximum airflow. For outdoor enthusiasts, mattresses can be moved to the rooftop to sleep under the stars from a private star gazing platform. The main lodge, with décor inspired from Northern Africa, has a lounge, pub, dining area and plunge pool, and offers a wrap-around veranda that overlooks the waterhole and provides a perfect location to view and photograph the desert sunset. Early morning guided game drives to the spectacular dunes are through a private gate on the Tsauchab River.

Beginning at first light, the 60-90 minute balloon safari offers a truly unique experience to soar silently above the magnificent sand dunes and desert - with a champagne breakfast served at your landing site.

Kulala Tented Camp is a nine-roomed camp situated in the heart of Namibia’s Namib Desert on a 46,000 acre private reserve near Sossusvlei. The camp is built at the foot of a mountain and comprises of 9 tents on elevated wooden decks which are linked to the main dining room, bar, reception area and swimming pool by pathways. The interiors are simple yet stylish and each tent has solar powered 12V lighting and an en suite bathroom with solar heated hot water. The main dining area, bar and reception are built from canvas with thatch roofing. There is a fully stocked bar and traditional 3 course meals are served at dinner. At night, lanterns light the main area. On the edge of the oldest desert in the world, wildlife here is sparse but fascinating. Moremi Crossing is a new tented camp, set on a palm-fringed island, which overlooks the Okavango Delta's famed Chief's Island.
Accommodation is in 16 simple, yet comfortable, tents. The Camp has been designed in a fully eco-friendly manner, and used the latest in solar and waste disposal technology.

The main building has a large open plan deck (built on different levels) that has a spectacular view over the Boro River and onto Chief's Island. Dining room, bar and lounge are covered by a large thatched roof that hugs the tree line.

In addition, there are a number of small private lounge areas, which allow for comfort, privacy and space. From here there is a shaded decked area that leads to the pool. The entire camp is also shaded by magnificent llala palms, ebony, mangosteen, sausage and giant fig trees.

Activities are aimed at being personalised, and guiding is of a high level. Half or full-day activities are on offer.
Guests can enjoy a mokoro excursion (traditional dug-out), where you glide along the channels of the delta, with their papyrus lined banks. Mokoro excursions are subject to water levels and are usually only available May - November. Should you wish to do a full day trip, you get to combine the water excursion, with short bush walks, and a delicious picnic lunch.

A bush walk is the best way to explore the wilderness, under the guidance and education of your own personal guide. Bush walks can be enjoyed independently of the mokoro excursion.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous, there you might enjoy a night or two camping out in the ‘bush’. Your mokoro is packed with basic equipment and food, and your guide will find an island to set up camp.

The camp also boasts small motor-boats, which allow for cruises on the Boro River itself - once again water levels permitting. You can enjoy drifting along a lagoon, and watch the sun set.

Xakanaxa Camp is one of the few Okavango lodges which can offer comprehensive year-round boating trips, as well as extensive nature drives into good game country. It has one of the best locations in Botswana, and is the original camp at Xakanaxa.
Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-Kan-A-Ka) is set in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, which is rated as being one of the finest game viewing areas in Africa, incorporating most of the Delta water and has a vast selection of exotic wildlife.

To the south and east, the reserve offers sanctuary to the most varied herds in southern Africa. To the north and west of the lodge are the permanent lagoons and waterways of the Okavango.

The game drives in this sector of Moremi, take one through a large variety of differing vegetation types, down winding tracks, through mopane forests and across lush grasslands.

The waterways are either forded by vehicle or crossed on rustic log bridges. The camp faces out over the Xakanaxa Lagoon on the Khwai River, where boat trips lead into the sinuous channels of the Delta, one of Africa's greatest natural wonders.

Game in the area includes just about everything imaginable - all of the Moremi game can be seen on the game drives, including tsessebe, lechwe, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, elephant, sable and giraffe. The predators are prevalent and lions are often heard calling in the early mornings. Leopards, wild dog and hyena are often sighted. Birding in the area is excellent, especially in the spring and summer months, when the migrants are breeding.

Boat trips and game drives are conducted by a team of experienced, professional game guides. The camp consists of luxury, spacious safari tents, with en-suite facilities. They are fully equipped and tastefully furnished. The dining room is open fronted with reed walls and a thatched roof, and has a fully stocked bar. Centrepiece in the dining room, is a dining table, tailor-made in old railway sleeper timber. Wholesome meals, candle-lit dinners and a selection of fine wines, will more than satisfy. The service is personalised and of a high standard. A rustic and friendly atmosphere prevails.
